Technical Design

Experts in technical design solutions for rainwater systems

When it comes to developing a rainwater drainage system, there’s a lot more to it than arriving at a building and installing outlets and piping. There’s in-depth technical elements that need to be carried out by specialists who understand how to calculate design specifications, use the latest analytical design and modelling software to comply with British Standards.

At SMART Rainwater, we have the technical knowledge to be able to develop and implement advanced rainwater drainage solutions across multiple sites and sectors.

What technical services do we specialise in?

Analytical design

A crucial part of creating bespoke drainage solutions is analytical design, this design calculation takes into account rainfall catchment areas, building / clients required specified level of protection (rainfall intensity), outlet type and locations, pipe lengths, diameter, bends, reducers, pressures and flowrates all cumulating to create an effective system, bespoke to the buildings requirement.

In addition our separate gutter check calculation will ensure that the rainwater drainage system operates to peak effectiveness in any given gutter size. We are able to check the gutters will not be overwhelmed at peak rainfall, and offer advice on gutter sizing at an early stage.

Business information modelling (BIM)

BIM is the process of creating and managing information on a construction project across the entire project lifecycle.

This is presented in a building information model, which is a digital representation of a built asset like a rainwater drainage system. The model is created based on the information that has been gathered across all key stages of a project. This provides a complete overview of how the system will look and function.

Our BIM process involves creating a 3D model of a system and refining the workflow of a project to ensure it’s delivered quickly and efficiently.

There are several benefits to this approach:

  • Resource saver: Through using a BIM process, you’ll be provided with a reliable estimate of construction cost estimates at an early stage.
  • Shorter project lifecycle: BIM tools help to speed up the construction of a rainwater drainage solution, meaning you’ll spend loss on the project overall.
  • Greater efficiency: BIM tools encourage greater communication among contractors and clients because all important information is stored in one place and is easy to access on request.
